GrafittiIn 2009 Alternatives established a young persons’ project “ALL4Y0Uth” supporting young people away from problematic alcohol and/or drug misuse before their dependency became persistent.

ALL4Y0Uth’s aim is to provide support to these young people 12 – 18 in West Dunbartonshire who are experiencing difficulty due to their substance misuse and associated emotional wellbeing.

ALL4Y0Uth offer a holistic service which is client led, flexible and focuses on the individual needs of each young person. We work on a 1-2-1 basis with additional group activity. We aim to equip the young people with the knowledge, skills and information to enable them to make informed life choices and divert them away from harmful behaviours. This is evidenced in our young people reporting improvement in their confidence, behaviours, mental / physical health and a reduction in their substance misuse.

We have a committed, knowledgeable team who are persistent and consistent in their approach. YP BoatThis enables us to build strong, trusting professional relationships. Our specialist GP service offers a full medical check and referral into community addiction/mental health services.  This project’s success has been possible thanks to the support and partnership working with external agencies, the young people themselves and their families.

We are fortunate and are delighted to have signed a Service Level Agreement with West Dunbartonshire CHCP to continue to offer our community based young person’s service. In addition we have been provided with further funding to develop a Rapid Response Initiative. This will provide a wrap around  service to young people 16 – 21 who are displaying harmful behaviours and who are putting themselves at risk in their community. They will be supported within a temporary flat for a sustained period as he/she move through a critical period. Rapid Response will be supported by a multi-agency forum that seeks to identify and put in place early intervention packages that involve all appropriate statutory and third sector agencies to divert young people away from harmful behaviours.

BowlingThe funding we have received from Lloyds/TSB Foundation for Scotland over the past 10 years has allowed us to set up, provide and grow a unique service of intensive 1-2-1 support to young people at risk. We know from feedback received and progress observed of young peoples’ journeys through our service, that we have made a difference in helping young people integrate back into their communities as valued citizens.  This is testament to the critical role Lloyds/TSB Foundation for Scotland has played over the last decade in supporting the most vulnerable young people in our area to change direction and rebuild their lives.
